than可以用作连词

than用作连词的意思是“比”,可指两个不同的人或物在同一方面进行比较,也可指同一个人或物在两个不同方面进行比较。

than用作连词时接名词或代词的主格形式是较正式的用法,若人称代词之后跟有动词, than后的人称代词只能用主格。

若than所连接的两个待比较的句子有相同成分,后者通常省略,若所连接的两个待比较的没有相同成分则不能省略。

一、 more than

2. more … than 之后接含有 can 的从句时，同样表示否定意义。例如：

Tom has more insolence than I can stand. = Tom''s insolence is more than I can stand.

三、 no more than 或 not any more than

比较： no less than 意为“不少于;不下于……之多;多达…”。例如：

四、 no more … than 或 not … any more than

1. 意为“和……一样地不……”，表示两者都否定，但说话人往往着重否定前面的一个分句，其作用相当于“ neither … nor ”。例如：

Marry is no more diligent than Tom. = Neither Mary nor Tom is diligent. 玛丽和汤姆两个人都不勤奋。

2. 意为“不……正如……不……一样”，常用来加重说话者的语气。例如：

We can no more leave the Party than fish can leave water.

比较： no less … than 意为“(至少)和……一样”。例如：

五、 not more than

比较：严格说来 not less … than 的意思是“至少不比……差”，意味或许还要强一些，但现在基本和 no less than 混用。例如：

His English is not less than yours.

他的英语至少不比你的英语差。

different加上from，to，than有什么区别?

关于different的词组，我们通常学到的都是将其与from连用。

其实，different to和different than也是正确的，意思都是“与……不同”，那这三个词组之间的区别是什么呢?

different from源于英式英语，在正式写作和使用中是首选。

different than则在美式英语中使用的较多。如果在英国这样说，有人会认为这种用法是错误的。

原因是than常与比较级形容词连用，在句中引入比较，而different并不是一个比较级形容词，所以这个词组听起来不太自然。

而different to多用于口语，使用情况较少。因此保险起见，大家还是继续使用different from这个词组。

不过这几个词组在使用时会有细微的差别，如果后接一个从句，那么different than会更好，而如果后接名词或名词短语，different from更好。
